My Senior Wants a Path I Don’t Fully Understand
My Senior Wants a Path I Don’t Fully Understand
Your senior is interested in a path that feels unfamiliar to you. You may not know how it works or see the outcome clearly, and that uncertainty can feel uncomfortable.
CHECK FIRST
Pause and gently ask:
Is my discomfort about safety—or unfamiliarity?
What does this path offer my senior that matters to them?
Have I asked them to explain what draws them to it?
Am I listening to understand—or to evaluate?
Not understanding yet doesn’t mean it’s wrong.
THEN
Choose a posture that keeps trust strong.
Option 1: Ask curious questions
Curiosity builds understanding more than concern alone.
Option 2: Separate risk from unfamiliarity
New doesn’t always mean unsafe.
Option 3: Allow learning over time
Understanding often grows through conversation, not conclusions.
PAUSE
You don’t need full understanding to offer support. You’re allowed to pause here.
NOTES / REFLECTION
If it helps, consider:
What part of this path feels hardest to accept?
What questions could help me understand better?
How can I stay connected while learning?
