Friends and Family Keep Giving Advice

Friends and Family Keep Giving Advice

Advice keeps coming—whether you asked for it or not. Some of it feels well-intended. Some of it feels overwhelming. And sorting through it feels exhausting.

CHECK FIRST
Pause and ask:
Is this advice informed—or opinion-based?
Does it fit our values and circumstances?
Am I feeling pressure to respond or explain?
Do I need to decide anything right now?
Advice doesn’t require immediate action.

THEN
Choose a response that preserves clarity.

Option 1: Listen without committing
You can hear input without adopting it.

Option 2: Filter advice through fit
What works for others may not work for your family.

Option 3: Reduce exposure
Not all advice needs to be engaged with.

PAUSE
You are allowed to take in information slowly.

NOTES / REFLECTION
If it helps, reflect on:
Which advice feels genuinely helpful?
Which feels draining or distracting?
What boundaries feel appropriate right now?
